Sheep Dog Game

After looking at sheep in the field, each team (with an adult) has a sheep dog name and "rounds up" pictures of sheep in an adjoining field to put them in a "pen".  ON the way they discover interesting facts about sheep.

Farm Trail

We look at the farm pond and find out what wildlife uses it.  We look at farmland birds and play a game about the birds on the farm at Thornham.  We look at the cows, which are male and which are female?  We talk about the offspring of farm animals.

What do we eat?

A game where the children match pictures of animals and plants to learn where our food comes from.

Introduction to the farm and its buildings

Looking at farm maps to find out what lives and grows at Thornham.  Data sheets give us information.  Looking at old farm buildings and their current use.

We follow a farm trail which includes activities in the stream.

Looking at the soil and learning about fertilisers, pests and diseases.  Looking for minibeasts.

How is wildlife attracted to the farm?  Looking for farmland birds

Crops

Looking at crops, why are they grown here?  What are they?
