Rocks
Looking at 6 different rocks, finding out the names, where from and writing four adjectives to describe each one
Ice Age and Cave Painting
Looking at people in the past, their hunting, clothes and tools. The natural materials used and where it came rom. Cave paintings, how were they done? In groups the children do their own cave paintings which might have been done on cave walls
Landscape
Looking at miniature landscapes on our 3D model the children add buildings, greenery, fields etc where they think they should be. We peel off the layers to discover the soil and rocks beneath. We discuss how landscape changes, depending on the rocks in the ground. The children are taken through the rock cycle.
Rock Trail
In pairs the children follow the Thornham Rock trail filling in a worksheet, at each rock they feel the texture, look at the surface. They are given more information to discover the name, description and whether the rock is igneous, sedimentary or metamorphic.
Minerals
In pairs a yes/no game about minerals, looking at minerals.
