We
are really pleased you are coming on a day trip to Thornham.
You are probably wondering what is going to happen.
Your teacher will have
talked to us and decided what you are going to learn. Don't
worry, learning at Thornham is fun!
You will probably arrive
by coach. The coach will park in our coach park and one of
the Thornham tutors, who will look after you for the day will meet
the coach. We call them tutors so you know they are different
to your own teachers. Your tutor might be: Jean, Pam, Marion,
Judith, Liz, or Jen. If you have a question, do email them.
Don't leave anything on
the coach. Your tutor will lead you to our main buildings
where you can leave your packed lunch. She will then give you a
short talk about Thornham and explain what will happen during the
day. She will show your teacher the two rubbish bins for you
to use for the rubbish from your packed lunches. These are
most important! One is marked compost the other landfill rubbish.
You will have been asked to bring a "low impact packed
lunch" - what's that? Click here
to remind yourself. We want lots of rubbish in the compost
bag and not much in the other one please.
Then off you go. Follow
your tutor and she will lead you into your Thornham adventure!
You might be dipping nets into the murky depths of the ponds to
see who might be living there, or going on a minibeast safari. You
might be going on a bear hunt or suddenly you might become a child
in the Victorian times and you are off to search for your grave
in the church yard. You could find yourself being a volcano or building
a den which your enemies could not find in the woods. There
is certainly never a dull moment at Thornham.
You will come back to where you left
your lunches for a short lunch break, then it is off again.
Most groups have to be back on the coach to get back to school at
2.30.
We hope you enjoy your
day. If you have any questions before you come do email us
Sarah@thornham.org.uk
and please do write or email us when you have been, we love to hear
from you and particularly like to get your pictures.
Don't forget to look at
our nest box with camera when you come. A blue tit is nesting
in the box and you can watch on the television screen in the Display
Centre lobby.
We have a new member of
staff Thorny. She doesn't do much work (no work!) but likes
to travel so she goes away with Thornham staff. Check out
where she has been by clicking on Thorny's
Adventures.
