Question:
What can go in your lunch
box?
Answer:
Lunch.
No, there is more to it
than that. We don't like rubbish at Thornham, so we ask you
not to leave lots of it behind.
Why don't we like rubbish?
Well, let's think about what happens to our rubbish. A lot
of it is buried in big holes in the ground called Land Fill Sites.
We throw away so many things that we are running out of land where
these holes can be dug.
We throw away in Britain
28 million tonnes of rubbish from home. That weighs the same
as three and a half million double decker buses. A queue of buses
that long would go around the world one and a half times!
Too much rubbish.
So what can we do?
Make sure we don't buy things with a lot of packaging.
So for our packed lunches:
- Put your lunch in a plastic box which can be used again
- Wrap your sandwiches in greaseproof paper then put that paper
in the pile of stuff for the compost bin
- Use a bottle for drinks which can be used again
- Bring fruit and put the apple coares or banana skins in the
compost pile
