Our
millennium project was to try to make a difference. We set
a target to encourage all visitors to Thornham to make an effort
to reuse, rather than replace, to recycle where possible and to
reassess their lifestyles.
This led in January 2001
to the Thornham Field Centre - in partnership with Thornham Walks
and the Upper Waveney Valley Project, to be awarded Eco Centre Status.
This award from ENCAMS (Going
for Green and the Tidy Britain Group) means that the centre has
reached various set targets that show a commitment to adopting a
sustainable life style. The Green Flag flying in the car park
shows we have achieved the highest Eco Centre award.
As part of this campaign
all visitors to Thornham whether schools or the general public are
asked to look at areas in their lives where they can make changes
which will be beneficial to the environment.
Visitors are asked to
switch off lights when they are not needed. Not to leave taps
running, to turn down heaters, to compost suitable rubbish, not
to leave litter, to buy local produce and to recycle where possible.
Schools are asked to bring a low
impact packed lunch and can follow our Waste
Not Want Not course for Key Stages 1 to 4 which fits
in with Citizenship and PHSE in the National Curriculum. |
